Italian Dinner for Lucas

Triple murderer Daniel Lucas was executed by the state of Georgia tonight for his part in the slayings of a father and his two children in 1998. Along with his partner-in-crime Brandon Rhode (executed in 2010), Lucas shot and killed the three victims when they walked in unexpectedly as Lucas and Rhode ransacked their home looking for valuables. For his last meal, Lucas asked for a meat pizza, a steak and cheese calzone, a stuffed portabella mushroom, a chef salad with both ranch and honey mustard dressing, and orange juice.

Fancy Feast For Fults

Kenneth Earl Fults was executed by the state of Georgia tonight for the shooting death of a neighbor during a 1996 crime spree. Just days before the murder, Fults had also tried to kill his former girlfriend's new boyfriend using a handgun he had stolen during a burglary.

For his last meal, Fults chose a classic combination of T-bone steak and baked potato with butter, along with the slightly less extravagant additions of brown rice and apple juice.

Vampire Killer Gets Steak to the Heart

Pablo Vasquez, dubbed the “Vampire Killer” by the press, was executed tonight by the state of Texas. Vasquez earned his death sentence by killing a 12-year-old boy in 1999; the victim was beaten with a pipe before Vasquez cut the boy’s throat and drank his blood, claiming that a voice inside his head told him to do it. Vasquez then tried to decapitate the boy with a shovel, but only managed to remove his scalp. When the boy’s body was found, both of his arms and one foot had been cut off, and some of his teeth were missing.

Because Texas no longer allows special last meal requests, Vasquez was served the same food as others in his unit. There was no mention of garlic or crosses on the food tray, but prison officials did wield a stake against the Vampire Killer—or a steak, rather. For his last meal, Pablo Vasquez was served Salisbury steak, steamed rice, brown gravy, a vegetable blend, sweet peas, ranch style beans, sliced bread, and butterscotch brownies, with a choice of water, tea, or punch (but no blood) to drink.
