Carey Dean Moore was executed by the state of Nebraska this morning, and this is what we can tell you:
Moore earned his death sentence for robbing and killing two cab drivers in 1979.
Moore was the first person to be executed in Nebraska since 1979, and the first ever in that state to die by lethal injection (the others were electrocuted).
Moore was the first US prisoner to die by a new combination of lethal injection drugs that includes the powerful opioid fentanyl.
What we can't tell you, however, is what Carey Dean Moore's last meal was, because the details weren't included in the state's press release, and their public information officer won't respond to our requests for information. We do know that Nebraska doesn't allow custom orders and only permits the condemned to pick from items normally available in the prison cafeteria, but until we learn more about Moore, that's all we can tell you.
UPDATE: According to a reporter from the Lincoln Journal Star, the last meal of Carey Dean Moore was a Pizza Hut pizza with bacon, beef, and mushrooms, strawberry cheesecake, and Pepsi.
