Breakfast for Berget

Rodney Berget was executed by the state of South Dakota on November 29, but before he died he acknowledged that breakfast is the most important meal of the day...even if it's your last day!

For his last meal, Berget had pancakes, waffles, maple syrup and butter, breakfast sausages, scrambled eggs, french fries, Pepsi and Cherry Nibs licorice.

Berget earned his death sentence for killing a correctional officer during a failed prison escape attempt.

That's One Hell of a Moving Violation

The state of Texas has pulled off a rare two-in-a-row, executing Daniel Acker one day after they executed Troy Clark.

Acker earned his death sentence for strangling his girlfriend then pushing her out of a moving car, causing her death. Acker was irked because he believed his girlfriend was shacking up with a club bouncer named Calico.

I kid you not. We can't make this stuff up.

Texas no longer allows special last meal requests, so Acker was served the same food as others in his unit. For his last meal, Daniel Acker had a chicken patty, steamed rice, country gravy, black beans, corn bread, chili mac, corn, and pinto beans, with a choice of tea, punch, or water to drink.

Assault and Pepper Steak

Troy Clark was executed by the state of Texas last night for a particularly brutal murder. In 1998, Clark killed a friend of his girlfriend by tasing her with a stun gun, beating her in the head with a wooden board, then drowning her in a bathtub. This was all supposedly to keep the girl from talking to the wrong people about Clark's drug dealings, although Clark denied that claim and never admitted to the killing.

"I’m not the one that killed Christina, so whatever makes y'all happy," Clark said in his final statement. "I love y'all. I’ll see you on the other side."

Since Texas no longer allows special last meal requests, Clark was served the same food as others in his unit. For his last meal, Clark had pepper steak, mashed potatoes, brown gravy, pinto beans, cornbread, black-eyed peas, pork noodle casserole, and carrot cake, with a choice of water, tea, or punch to drink.

Moore's Meal a Mystery no More

Carey Dean Moore was executed by the state of Nebraska this morning, and this is what we can tell you:

Moore earned his death sentence for robbing and killing two cab drivers in 1979.

Moore was the first person to be executed in Nebraska since 1979, and the first ever in that state to die by lethal injection (the others were electrocuted).

Moore was the first US prisoner to die by a new combination of lethal injection drugs that includes the powerful opioid fentanyl.

What we can't tell you, however, is what Carey Dean Moore's last meal was, because the details weren't included in the state's press release, and their public information officer won't respond to our requests for information. We do know that Nebraska doesn't allow custom orders and only permits the condemned to pick from items normally available in the prison cafeteria, but until we learn more about Moore, that's all we can tell you.

UPDATE: According to a reporter from the Lincoln Journal Star, the last meal of Carey Dean Moore was a Pizza Hut pizza with bacon, beef, and mushrooms, strawberry cheesecake, and Pepsi.

Hook-ed on Fast Food

Convicted killer Robert Van Hook was executed by the state of Ohio this morning. Van Hook earned his death sentence for stabbing and strangling a man he picked up in a gay bar and intended to rob. Van Hook's lawyers claimed "gay panic defense" in court, but prosecutors countered by calling that claim "bullcrap."

For his last meal, Van Hook had three double cheeseburgers, three orders of fries, a whole strawberry cheesecake with whipped cream, a vanilla milkshake, and grapefruit juice.

Live Fast, Die Young

Christopher Young was executed by the state of Texas tonight. Young earned his death sentence for killing a convenience store owner during an attempted robbery in 2004, but he claimed he only committed the murder because he'd drunk nearly two dozen beers and been snorting cocaine at the time--and on a Sunday morning, no less.

Ah, to be Young and foolish.

Before he died, Young uttered the last words, "I can taste it in my throat." Was he talking about justice, the execution drugs, or the remnants of his last meal, which was BBQ chopped brisket, mashed potatoes with country gravy, vegetarian beans, chilled pasta salad, corn, pinto beans, and sliced bread, with a choice of tea, punch, or water to drink?
