The accused leader of the 'Texas 7," a group of hardened criminals who escaped from prison in 2000 and went on a crime spree that left a police officer dead, was executed in Texas tonight.
George Rivas apologized to the family of his victim, told his own family that he loved them, then gave a shout out to his fellow death row inmates, saying, "You have my courtesy and respect."
Since Texas did away with special last meal requests in 2011, Rivas was served the same "daily special" as all the other prisoners; barbecued chicken, beans, potato salad, and yellow cake with chocolate icing.
